How much does it cost to put up Colorbond fencing?

The cost of a COLORBOND® steel fence depends on the profile you choose, the panel height, how many panels your fence line needs, and your colour selection. ClickSteel’s Metzag, Metline and Trimclad fence panel kits start from $104.40, with pricing set by your delivery state, and each kit includes infill sheets, two fence posts, two fence rails and self tapping screws. Gates are priced separately and start from $515.60. ClickSteel supplies materials only, so add a labour quote if you are not installing it yourself. Use the Fence Project Planner to price your full run, or find a local installer through Find A Tradie®.

How long does Colorbond fencing last?

A fence built from genuine COLORBOND® steel can last 20 years or more with minimal maintenance, and it is backed by a BlueScope® steel warranty. It will not rot, warp, crack or attract termites the way timber palings do, and it is non-combustible. Coastal and heavy industrial areas are more corrosive to any steel product, so keep the fence clean and clear of trapped leaf litter and moss at the base. If your fence will sit close to severe marine conditions or a swimming pool, contact the ClickSteel team for advice before you order.

Can I install a Colorbond fence myself?

Yes. ClickSteel’s DIY fence panel kits are designed for self installation and arrive flat packed with everything you need, including infill sheets, two posts, two rails and self tapping screws. You will need basic tools such as a drill, a level, a string line and a post hole digger, with no welding or specialist equipment required. Set the posts in concrete at the correct spacing, fit the rails, then fix the infill sheets. Most customers finish a straightforward run over a weekend using the ClickSteel Fencing Selection and Installation Guide or the install video. If the site has awkward grades, retaining requirements or boundary questions, use Find A Tradie® to get a licensed fencing contractor instead.

Does Colorbond fencing rust?

COLORBOND® steel is a pre-painted, metallic-coated steel product designed specifically to resist corrosion, so a fence built from it will not rust under normal conditions. The steel core sits beneath a metallic coating and a baked-on paint finish, and cut edges are the most vulnerable point if left in constant contact with moisture. Coastal salt air, lawn chemicals and trapped moss or leaf litter against the sheet can accelerate wear over time, so keep the base of the fence clear and rinse it down periodically. Exposure varies by site, so contact ClickSteel for advice if your fence will sit near severe marine conditions or a pool.

What are the widths of Colorbond fence panels?

ClickSteel’s Metzag, Metline and Trimclad fence panels come in two widths, 2365mm and 3125mm, and each standard panel covers roughly 2.36 metres of fence line once installed. Panel heights are 1200mm, 1500mm, 1800mm and 2100mm, so you can match an existing boundary fence or go lower for a courtyard or pool surround. To work out how many panels you need, measure your total fence run, divide by 2.36 and round up, then allow extra posts for corners and ends. The Fence Project Planner does this calculation for you and prices the full kit.

Is Colorbond fencing cheaper than wood fencing?

Timber palings are often cheaper to buy upfront, but a COLORBOND® steel fence usually works out more cost-effective over the life of the fence. There is no repainting, no rotted or loose palings to replace and no ongoing termite treatment, and the steel is non-combustible. Panel kits also go up quickly once the posts are set, which can offset labour costs on a longer run. The fairest comparison is to price the panels, posts and gates you actually need against a like for like timber quote for your fence length and height.

How high can you extend a Colorbond fence?

Standard boundary fences in most Australian residential areas are 1.8 metres, and going higher than that usually needs approval. Dividing fences are governed by your state’s fencing legislation and generally require agreement with your neighbour, while your local council sets height and planning controls, so check both before you extend. ClickSteel panels are available up to 2100mm, but adding height increases the wind load on your posts, and because posts come in fixed heights an extension will normally mean replacing them rather than simply adding sheets. Wind load depends on where you live, where the fence sits on the property and how sheltered it is by surrounding buildings. If you are unsure, talk to the ClickSteel team or engage a fencing contractor through Find A Tradie®.
