Clean them regularly

After applying the water and detergent mixture, rinse the fence and gate with fresh water and allow it to dry.

Check the metal fences and gates for clear signs of rust, especially in areas where the paint has started to come off. You may be able to repaint these rust-affected areas with anti-corrosion paint.
Grease the hinges
Make sure to thoroughly inspect your gate’s hinges every once a year. Open and close the gate to check if it makes loud squeaking noises. If the gate is noisy when moved, you may need to grease the hinges. Check which types of lubricant the manufacturer recommends for your gate’s hinges and apply it at least once every 12 months.
